ToC - Anub'Arak

Anub'Arak Final Boss ToC

Strategy and abilities are from WoWwiki, Strategy Modifed 9/25/09.

Abilities

Permafrost

Permafrost is created by killing one of the blue orbs floating above the boss. The orb will freeze the ground where it crashes and will prevent most creatures from burrowing and reduce the movement speed by 80%. We tank the Boss on this area to prevent the adds from burrowing and healing to full. See Adds below for further info.

These will spawn infinitely on normal mode and will be limited to a total of six over the fight on heroic mode. We will set a group of ranged to make sure we pop these down around the boss and in a ranged group.

Anub Abilities

Phase One: - Anub'arak melees for roughly 25,000 on plate.
1. Frontal cleave - no melee in range of this, he will pwn you, so basic tank facing away from the raid.

2. Penetrating Cold — Cast on three random players that will cause 3,500 (Hard mode 6,000) frost damage every 3 seconds for 18 seconds. Instant
cast, basically we will have two healers on Raid focus healing this, its a total of 36K without mitigation, frost aura will decrease it a bit.

3. Submerge — Burrows into the ground and enters into Phase 2; will occur on a timer base, usually after two sets of adds spawn.

Phase Two: - Anub'arak enters Phase 2 after two sets of spawns until he reaches 30%HP at which time he will enter Phase 3.

1. Pursued by Anub'arak: Anub'arak is pursuing you, kite him over the permafrost if targeted

2. Pursuing Spikes: Fires a spike through the floor, impaling all targets NOT standing on frost within 4 yards, dealing 2,828 to 3,172 damage and knocking them up in the air. This attack ignores armor, basically AOE hits, so stay on frost and heal if needed.

3. Impale: When Anub'arak reaches his target he will cast this spell. Fires a spike up through the floor above Anub'arak, inflicting 17672 to 19828 Physical damage to anyone within 6 yards and sending them flying high up in the air (50% fall damage). This attack ignores armor, but cannot penetrate Permafrost. Instant; so if he targets you stand on frost, the frost will disappear once he pushes through, so easy step as ranged is to shoot down some more frost while he approaches you.

4. Summon Scarab: A Swarm Scarab emerges from the ground, Ranged DPS will kill the spawned adds, they can NOT be tanked, they can be kited but put a Debuff on tanks for additional damage, ranged focus fire with some Melee DPS help if available.

5. Nerubian Burrower: Big guys spawn two at a time usually in Phase 1, Phase 2 melee focus fire them down while on frost, they will be OT on the frost and make sure you stop DPS if being kited to a new frost patch. If they burrow they will heal themselves to full, the burrow cast is 2.5 seconds and can be stunned to interrupt it.

Phase Three: At 30% HP Anub'arak will permanently apply Leeching Swarm to the entire raid.
1. Leeching Swarm: Releases a swarm of insects that attack the caster's enemies, leeching 10% (Hard Mode 20%) of each target's CURRENT (not maximum) health every 1 second. A minimum of 250 health will be leeched. This ability heals Anub'arak 1.5 second cast

Strategy:

Phase One:

Gather up, have ranged DPS shoot down the blue orbs above to form permafrost continually as the fight progresses and tank Anub'arak on top of the permafrost, facing away from the Raid. Anub'arak melees as hard as General Vezax and has a frontal cleave-like ability. Make sure his entire hit box is on top of the permafrost. The adds will be brought under the boss and use melee Multi-hits and ranged DPS if needed to kill off the pack of Adds before the new set comes out. The adds are tanked under the boss so that they are fully on frost to prevent them from burrowing to full health, stun if they start to cast burrow.

Nerubian Burrower adds will spawn in phase one that stack a damage taken increasing debuff on their tanks, can be offtanked for the entire fight (difficult) or burned down by DPS as they spawn We will OT the Adds under the boss and melee and potentially ranged will Kill as spawned.

Phase Two: Anub burrows starts phase 2

Anub'arak will burrow and pursue a random target with spikes throughout the phase and when he reaches them he will cast Impale. Anub'arak will only impale people on open ground, standing on the permafrost will enable you to avoid this ability but the casting of impale will despawn the permafrost it hits. Burrowers and Swarm Scarabs will spawn, scarabs have little hp but stack the same debuff on their tanks, can be AoE'd. After a number of waves of adds Anub'arak will surface and begin phase one again, finish off the adds and move back to Phase 1 Strat. .

[#5fbf1f]Phase Three: 30% health to death

It is advisable to kill off any adds currently active before pushing Anub'arak under 30%. He will not submerge or summon any more adds at this point. Anub'arak needs to die very quickly after hitting 30% as you will not last long under the effects of leeching swarm. It is not ideal to top off raid members as they will then be taking full damage from the leeching swarm, healing Anub'arak and prolonging the phase. Instead you will want to keep people at ~5,000 HP (Hard mode ~9,000) so that they do not get gibbed by penetrating cold while also minimizing the amount Anub'arak heals (Anub'arak will be being healed for ~60,000 HP a second if the entire raid is at full HP on 25-man mode). Tanks and people with penetrating cold will need spam healing. Anub'arak does not have any other tricks and will die upon reaching 0% HP. So basically a DPS race, Keep the tank healed full, let raid fall healing wise, keep your HS and BL for this phase, use the HS when you get to under 3K health, healers focus on MT and the Penetrating Cold 3 Players to keep them alive, but not full.
